Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The first long trip train cars are expected to be delivered around Maya Train routes in September. On Tuesday, Presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador said the specialized cars will be delivered once the entire route is finished.
He says regarding the missing sections of 5 Sur, 6 and 7, the section from Escárcega to Chetumal (section 7) will be inaugurated in August and the entire route will be ready in early September.
He says that is when train manufacturing company Alstom, based in Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo, will deliver the first specialized train for long trips. He says those cars will be equipped with sleeping cabins and a fully equipped restaurant.
“In the case of the train, it will now be inaugurated at the end of August from Escárcega to Chetumal,” he reported. During the first week of September, the entire circuit will be inaugurated.
“By early September, all the stations will be in place and the trains will be running. There are now 16 trains, but there will be a little more than 40 in total,” he said.
He also said he was hopeful that the weather would allow the continuation of work to meet delivery schedules.
“We hope that the rain will allow us to work because it is raining quite a lot in the Peninsula and that limits the work. There have even been floods, as in Chetumal, which is where we are working, but we hope to finish,” he said.
He comments come on the heels of the arrival of Hurricane Beryl, which is forecast to make landfall early Friday in the municipality of Tulum.
