He reported that on Sunday, a member of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) in Chetumal was shot during an accidental discharge of his weapon. He said the two soldiers were returning home after being dispatched for Maya Train protection detail outside Chetumal.

The two men were in a taxi when they were arranging their weapons and documentation to board a bus to return home when one of the guns went off. During a press conference Monday, Salazar said “it was an unfortunate accident and there were no indications of intentional homicide.”
