Letters to the Editor: What is going on?!

I read your article about the charges for a day pass for the Cozumel beach club being built by Royal Caribbean. I was shocked!

How do they justify charging over 10,000 pesos for a couple (5,500 pesos per person) of locals to go to the beach? That’s insane! Waterpark access, a massage and champaign (who drinks champaign in the sun btw?) for $310 USD.

I can get those things locally for a fraction of that price (like 80 percent less) by steering clear of USD-priced services and shopping locally.

The beaches in Mexico are supposed to be local and accessible, not only by access (car, bike by foot), they are supposed to be obtainable which $310 is NOT.

Do these folks not know the daily wage of a local worker? Do they not understand that once they take over that beach, it will be completely off limits to the locals because NO ONE can afford that.

Maybe that is the reason behind the extremely outrageous overpriced day pass, to keep the locals out!

Their unrealistic perception of local living is infuriating and is not something I will pay for or recommend to anyone else. There are MANY other beach options on Cozumel.

Count me out Paradise Beach Club!
