Letters to the Editor: I’ve been wondering why local government can’t see the end of tourism

I’ve been wondering why local government can’t see the end of tourism in Tulum is directly linked to the toll booth at jaguar park. And not just a toll booth but ID check, purse check, trunk check and out by 5pm.

They seem unconcerned. Who are the people affected? Maya families used to pile their kids in trucks and head out to the free state beach, park along the road and head into Playa Maya.

You cannot even drive a scooter in now. You want to go to Playa Maya you have to walk the 3 km or ride bike. No food or drinks.

Whose idea was this? Federal government? Local politicians? Who is benefiting?

After every business inside state park goes out of business, who is most likely to buy up the land? What’s next, a theme park and dredging for cruise ships?

Apparently no one is even slightly concerned about hotels and restaurants or lack of business in Tulum center. Is any of Aldea Zama suffering? La Velletta?

The wealthy are pushing out everyone so they can take over. In fact I read in a FB group this guy replied to someone looking for alternative healers for an event. He said to the guy, “You’re still here? I thought all you hippies and losers got overpriced and squeezed out a couple years ago”. Wow.

Maybe that says it all about the state of things and who’s behind the locked gate at Jaguar Park.

Still here in Tulum.
