Judge hands down 21 year sentence for landing drug filled plane at Chetumal International

Chetumal, Q.R. — A judge has handed down a 21 year prison sentence to a man who landed a drug-filled airplane at Chetumal International. The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) has reported the sentence imposed on Matias “E”.

In their public statement, the FGR reported that the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime was successful in obtaining a prison sentence for the man who was found transporting a plane load of cocaine.

Matias “E” was detained in October 2020, by elements of the Secretariat of National Defense after he was seen descending from a plane which, moments earlier, had landed at the Chetumal International Airport.

Inside the plane, authorities found 56 bricks of cocaine with a weight in excess of 1.5 tons. Matias “E” was sentenced to 21 years and three months in Chetumal prison for transporting cocaine and aggravated use of airport facilities.
