Mahahual, Q.R. — Mobility Institute inspectors were part of a Mahahual public transport verification operation Thursday. Dozens of taxis, buses and cargo units were pulled over and their papers inspected during the afternoon operation.
The surprise filter was led by elements assigned to the Chetumal Imoveqroo (Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo) delegation who arrived in Mahahual to carry out the inspections.
The inspectors reviewed both the documentation of the concessioned vehicle as well as the physical condition of the public transport units. At least one Mahahual taxi was removed from circulation during the inspections.
Officials found one driver circulating in a car designated as a taxi but without any corresponding license plate. Upon review of the driver’s paperwork, the cab was illegal since the driver did not have a taxi permit. That vehicle was towed.
The inspection point was set up due to ongoing complaints of illegal transport drivers in and around the Mahahual-Grand Costa Maya area.
