Chiquilá, Q.R. — A woman has reportedly died in Chiquilá due to lack of proper decompression. The female tourist had completed a dive off the island of Holbox but experienced decompression sickness upon resurfacing.
She was taken to a medical centre the town of Chiquilá on the mainland for treatment. She was unconscious upon arrival and was to be transferred to the Kantunilkín Integral Hospital, the largest centre in the municipality, however, she died while in Chiquilá waiting for an ambulance transfer.
The woman has not been identified outside being a tourist from Chile.
