Chetumal, Q.R. — Three men from Chetumal were hauled off to jail Wednesday after being found with out-of-season conch meat. The three men were stopped by municipal police in a company vehicle that they said, was being driven suspiciously.
The company truck was pulled over on Chetumal’s Insurgentes Avenue and its freezer inspected. Inside, authorities located nearly half a ton of queen conch meat that they could not provide possession permits for.
All three were jailed for smuggling the illegal seafood. Chetumal officers seized the meat and the company truck. They did not say if those inside the vehicle worked for the company of the vehicle they were driving.
