Mexico City, Mexico –On Wednesday, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) officially confirmed the authorization of the purchase of Fox Sports Mexico by Grupo Lauman. The change of control will take place in the following months.
After months of negotiating to reach an agreement for the sale of Fox Sports Mexico, Grupo Lauman was successful in reaching a deal. The company has a long-standing relationship with the sports channel since its launch as an exclusive signal for Mexico, as well as its development and growth in the country under the ownership of Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. and The Walt Disney Company.
Lauman Group, a global telecommunications, broadcast and media group in Latin America, has been around during the development and evolution of Fox Sports Mexico, offering operational, production and technology services as well as having participated in the consolidation of Fox Sports México as the leading pay television sports channel in the market.
“This acquisition complements the portfolio and corporate strategy of Grupo Lauman in the Media and Telecommunications Area. We are honored and proud to acquire the number one sports pay channel in Mexico,” commented Manuel Arroyo, president of Grupo Lauman.
“We are sure that at the close of the operation, we will maintain the growth of Fox Sports as the leading sports content channels in Mexico and we reiterate our commitment to continue investing in Mexico with the aim of building a better country for everyone every day”, they said.
We thank The Walt Disney Company and the current Fox Sports Mexico team, which has maintained the channel as a leader throughout this time, and to our audience, which has remained loyal throughout this divestiture process.
