Governor expresses concern over rise in Chetumal infections

Chetumal, Q.R. — According to the state ranking released Tuesday, Chetumal leads with the highest active cases of covid. Governor Carlos Joaquín reiterated his concern that numbers are increasing and with a greater chance of returning to a red epidemiological light.

Joaquin reported that out of the top 10 spots, seven belong to neighborhoods in Chetumal, while the remaining three are located in Cancun. He added that the figures are worrying because over the past week, the state has continued to record between 100 and 200 new covid cases a day.

The state governor added that for the past several weeks, Quintana Roo has continued to record a rise in infections and that “the outlook is not at all encouraging”.

He also expressed his concern about the rise in infections during the last stretch of the electoral campaigns saying “we have asked, through the electoral institute, that the recommendations be addressed, and today, we reiterate the need to take care of people as candidates, to be leaders of a municipal leadership, must become aware of the responsibility and act with the same responsibility not to put people’s health at risk.”
