Government expropriates another 139 private Costa Maya properties for Maya Train use

Costa Maya, Q.R. — The Government of Mexico has expropriated another 139 private Costa Maya properties for the Maya Train. On Friday, the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador published a decree that will see more than 2.2 million square meters of land turned over for train use.

This, added to the 2.3 million square meters expropriated last week. On December 6, the government published a decree to expropriate 151 private properties in the municipalities of Tulum, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Othón P. Blanco and Bacalar.

On December 12, a second decree in less than a week was published that will see another 139 private properties turned over to the government for Maya Train use.

According to the decree, “DECLARATION of cause of public utility relating to 2,299,274.452 m² corresponding to 139 privately owned properties in the municipalities of Tulum, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Othón P. Blanco and Bacalar, in the State of Quintana Roo, which will be used for the construction of public infrastructure works related to the Maya Train Project.”
