General director of epidemiology agrees mobility primary reason for spread of Covid across Quintana Roo

Chetumal, Q.R. — During a press conference, the general director of Epidemiology Dr. José Luis Alomía explained that the state of Quintana Roo has had ups and downs in the transmission of Covid-19, but that the cases are now concentrated in the southern zone.

The epidemiologist explained that Quintana Roo is one of the states that “has had ups and downs over the past three months, and that an increase in the reproduction of infections was detected, including a regrowth in Cancun.”

“The basic number of people infected increased at the end of June. We saw this in the municipality of Juárez, specifically in Cancun where a regrowth was already noted and that is often explained by mobility,” he stressed.

“The greatest transmission is concentrated in Othón P. Blanco, but already in the lower part, like Chetumal, we are seeing important activity,” he added.

Sanitary filters have already been reimplmented in areas such as Chetumal, Mahahual and Felipe Carrillo Puerto with the head of pubic security Alberto Capella, warning that strategies are being looked at the further reduce mobility in other areas, not only in the current red zone.
