Chetumal, Q.R. — A gang member suspect wanted for murder and attempted murder in Chetumal has been captured in Campeche. The detainee, identified as the leader of a drug dealer network that was recently dismantled with the arrest of 11 of its members, are believed involved in several homicides in the south of Quintana Roo.
In a statement Friday afternoon, the State Attorney General (FGE) reported on the Thursday night capture of Joaquín Ramón “N”. He was arrested in collaboration with the FGE of Campeche on an outstanding arrest warrant.
“Joaquín Ramón “N” is being investigated for his alleged participation in at least three homicides and one attempted homicide in the state capital,” the FGE (Fiscalía General Del Estado) said.
Joaquín Ramón “N” is believed responsible for the April 26 attack against agents of the Investigative Police which culminated in the arrest of three people in possession of firearms.
The FGE said his capture was the result of investigations related to high-impact criminal events that occurred in April of this year in the state’s southern region.
“The capture of this subject, who is identified as the leader of a criminal group that generates violence in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, is the result of coordinated work with the institutions of the three levels of government in order to guarantee peace and the safety of Quintana Roo families and their visitors.
“With this arrest, the dismantling of the criminal gang commanded by Joaquín Ramón “N” is achieved.”
On April 24 and 26 of this year, 11 people were arrested in the city of Chetumal in possession of firearms, mobile equipment, various doses of narcotics, vehicles, useful cartridges, uniforms and tactical equipment, among other items, the agency reported.
“The field and office investigations indicates that those investigated would be related to at least three homicides and one attempted homicide in the state capital. One registered in the Flamingos subdivision where a teenager lost his life and a person identified as an element of the Municipal Police was injured.
“A second event occurred in the Las Américas II subdivision where two men lost their lives, and a third criminal event occurred in the Proterritorio neighborhood where a man was killed after being shot several times.”
After Joaquín Ramón “N” was captured in the neighboring state of Campeche, elements of the Investigative Police transferred him to the city of Chetumal where he will face charges.
