Frontal system to bring intense rain to Cancun, Riviera Maya

Cancun, Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Frontal system 11 will bring intense rain to the Cancun, Riviera Maya region of Quintana Roo, while the passing of Eta will bring rain showers to the south of the state.

The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) says for Thursday and Friday, frontal system No. 11 will extend as stationary over the northwest Caribbean Sea in interaction with the tropical cyclone Eta, which is now located on land between Honduras and Nicaragua.

From this, heavy rains are expected in the south and southeast of Mexico, while very heavy rains with occasional intense downpours of between 75 to 150 mm is forecast for Tabasco, Chiapas and Quintana Roo.

These systems will also deliver strong wind gusts, which have forced authorities to modify maritime operations between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, as well as between Cancun and Isla Mujeres.

SMN reports waves from 4 to 6 meters high along the coasts of Quintana Roo during the passing of the front. In a statement, the Port Administration of Quintana Roo announced changes and cancellations on some Cozumel to Playa del Carmen and Punta Venado routes, as well as from Isla Mujeres to Puerto Juárez and Punta Sam.
