Four detained in nighttime ambush of police officers outside Chetumal

Chetumal, Q.R. — Four people were arrested Tuesday believed part of a drug gang. The three men and one woman are also believed responsible for the disappearance of four police officers the night before.

On Monday night, a police unit was ambushed after vehicles suddenly appeared and blocked the roadway. Four people from inside disarmed the officers and forced them from their unit.

The four officers were found unharmed in the early morning hours of Tuesday. They were located in brush. The four believed responsible have since been arrested after being tracked down in the town of Luis Echeverria in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco.

In a social media news brief, the State Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace and Security in Quintana Roo, reported “In relation to the events in the Municipality of Othón P. Blanco, the authorities that make up the State Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace and Security in Quintana Roo grouped expeditiously approached the vicinity of the town of Luis Echeverria, achieving the arrest of with 3 males and 1 female.”

In their briefing, the agency reported the seizure of a vehicle and the arrests of Efraín “N”, José Miguel “N”, Rudy Gilbert “N” and Karina “N” respectively.

Reports say that the group’s leader, Efraín N, is wanted for kidnapping in the State of Mexico and in Quintana Roo.
