Cancun, Q.R. — Four more Tren Maya cars have arrived in Cancun. The latest convoy arrived mere days before the official inauguration, which is scheduled for December 15.
The escorted cars were seen pulling into the Cancun Maya Train maintenance garage Sunday morning. The cars arrived together after making the journey from Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo. They were escorted by National Guard the entire way.
Governor Mara Lezama posted “Exciting news! Four new carriages of Tren Maya have arrived at our depot in Cancun. This project continues to bring shared prosperity with social justice throughout Quintana Roo.”
There are now a total of 24 standard model cars in Cancun. The first began arriving in July. Each car has a 230 passenger capacity. This is the sixth Maya Train car convoy that has arrived in Cancun.
The official inauguration from Campeche to Cancun will be held on December 15. The Cancun to Palenque section is scheduled to begin operations on December 31. The entire Tren Maya project is scheduled for completion by the end of February 2024.
