Former city garbage collection company employees block dump in protest

Cancun, Q.R. — Dozens of employees from the former city garbage collection company have blocked the dump’s main entrance. The angry employees claim the company directors left them behind after their contract was terminated by the city.

The workers began a permanent blockade Saturday morning at the main access to the sanitary landfill. Workers say due to mismanagement and environmental contamination that caused the company to lose the city concession, they want fair payment from the company.

Representatives from the garbage collection company Promotora Inmobiliaria Majahual (Pimsa) have not responded to their employees, leaving the municipal government to try and negotiate. The City of Cancun is trying to negotiate access so the garbage trucks from Red Ambiental, who are currently managing the garbage collection, so the trucks can enter the site.
