Cancun, Q.R. — A former Cancun police commander has entered the municipal prison system after being arrested in the state of Hidalgo. Miguel Ángel, alias “El Tigre”, was transferred to Quintana Roo Wednesday night.
His transfer was made after his arrest in the city of Pachuca two days earlier. He was captured on two outstanding arrest warrants for homicide. He has been accused of being a main generator of violence in the city of Cancun.
According to the Quintana Roo Investigative Police (PDI), Miguel Ángel Cuéllar Rangel once held the position of Commander of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Dealing.
Omar Garcia Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico, said Tuesday, “thanks to the coordination between institutions of the security cabinet, the arrest of Miguel Ángel “N” was achieved. He is a priority target in Quintana Roo. He has two arrest warrants for aggravated homicide.”
The current Sinola cartel member was flown to Cancun and transported to the prison yard in an armored vehicle. Local authorities have yet to comment publicly on his arrest or his return to Cancun.
