Cancun, Q.R. — A former Cancun police commander has been officially charged with aggravated homicide. On Thursday, Miguel Ángel “N”, alias “El Tigre”, former commander of the Investigative Police, was charged with a May 2023 homicide.
In a statement, the local authorities said “the events for which he is being investigated occurred on May 23, 2023, when the victim arrived at a stable located very close to the Alfredo V. Bonfil delegation, at the same time that a white vehicle also arrived, driven by Alonso “N”, alias “El 7”.
“In the passenger seat was Miguel Ángel “N”, who got out of the vehicle to shoot the victim several times with a firearm, losing his life at the scene, while the occupants of the vehicle fled, later hiding the car in an irregular colony.”
In their statement, authorities noted that the driver of the vehicle, Alonso “N”, had an outstanding arrest warrant also related to the May 2023 murder, but was killed in Mexico City in December of 2023.
Miguel Ángel “N” held the position of Commander of the Investigative Police of Quintana Roo during the previous administration of former Governor Carlos Joaquin from 2016 to 2022. He was captured December 17, 2023 in the city of Pachuca, Hidalgo and returned to Quintana Roo to face charges.
