Fonatur scraps elevating Cancun-Playa del Carmen section of Maya Train

Cancun, Q.R. — A change in the construction plans of the Maya Train will now see it running parallel to the federal highway. Rogelio Jiménez Pons, general director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) confirmed that they have scrapped the idea of an overpass and reverted back to the original idea.

He said that the track between Cancun and Playa del Carmen will not be elevated after all, but will be built along the right-of-way of the pylons that run parallel to the road. He did not provide an explanation for the sudden change of plans.

What he did say during the recent Tianguis Turístico de México in Merida, was that the change will reduce the elevated sections from 60 kilometers to only 18 kilometers, a majority of which, will cross Playa del Carmen.
