Fonatur halts installation of Playa del Carmen gas lines to coordinate with Maya Train

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The installation of natural gas lines throughout Playa del Carmen have been halted. The halt was made by the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) who requested the temporary suspension of the project.

Federal deputy Luis Alegre Salazar explained that Fonatur requested the project be stopped until the placement of the underground pipes has been integrated with the ongoing Maya Train project.

For months, natural gas pipelines have been installed along the major highway through Playa del Carmen. Alegre Salazar, who is also a state representative of the Maya Train, clarified that the only concern are the lines being coordinated with the train project.

He added that the halt on the installation of the lines is not due to improper or unsafe placement. “The important thing is that it is coordinated,” he said.
