Cancun, Q.R. — The National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) says they have begun the acquisition of the rails to be used in the first five sections of the Maya Train.
Regarding general progress, the agency announced that Section 1 continues with the formation of the embankment and the rescue work of flora and fauna, while in the second, advancements with stripping and dismantling of old work continues.
In relation to Section 3, the agency specified “we are continuing with the transversal drainage work and the cutting and classification of the old road.”
In Section 4, which will link Izamal, Yucatán, with the Cancun airport, excavation and embankment work continues as well as clearing and stripping along the highway to Mérida. Fonatur pointed out that strip of 257 kiolmteres will have three stations, Kantunil, Chichén Itzá and El Tinte-Holbox.
Fonatur (Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo) said that with the intention of making the most of the iron material, it has planned to use the remnants of other rail projects for complementary projects such as maintenance bases, workshops and garages.
