Mexico City, Mexico — On Friday, the Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (Fonatur) announced the winning consortium of the third Maya Train section.
The consortium composed of Construcciones Urales, Gami Ingeniería and Instalaciones, both of which are Mexican and AZVI of Spain, have won the contract for the third section of 172 kilometres of track that will be laid from Calkiní, Campeche to Izamal, Yucatán.
Arturo Ávalos, director of Administration and Finance at Fonatur said the winning bid came in at just over 10.1 billion peso, which was accepted over the other 16 bids received. The work for this particular section of train is scheduled to begin May 25.
