Cancun, Q. R. — The National Tourism Promotion Fund (Fonatur) announced Bombardier Transportation México S.A. de C.V as the winner of the Maya Train project tender. The consortium, which is made up of Bombardier Transportation México, Alstom Transport México, Gami Ingeniería y Instalaciones y Construcciones Urales, was the winner of the tender for the acquisition of rolling stock and railway systems for the Maya Train.
For the winning bid of 36.6 billion peso, the consortium will be in charge of the design, manufacture, delivery, testing and commissioning of 42 trains as well as the railway systems necessary for the proper operation of the Maya Train.
The company will also be in charge of the construction of the control posts (central and zone) of the maintenance workshops and garages for the safeguarding and conservation of the trains, as well as the provision of the after-sales service related to the conservation and optimal operation of the trains.
Fonatur reported that the assembly of the trains will be carried out at the Ciudad Sahagún plant inb Hidalgo, thereby boosting national employment.
The first tests of the equipment acquired prior to the operation of the Maya Train system will be carried out during 2023, in compliance with the project calendar.
On Wednesday, the second of 14 shipments of rails arrived at the port of Progresso. The second shipment, which arrived from China, were transported by ground to Valladiolid and Cancun for construction of the Maya Train.
