Five arrested in Mexico City after feds find more than 5,000 fake license plates

Mexico City, Mexico — More than 5,000 fake license plates were seized and five people arrested in an extensive operation in Mexico City Friday. The secretary of Security for Mexico City says the seizure and arrests were made in four simultaneous operations during the early morning hours of Friday.

The secretary of Seguridad Ciudadana of the Ciudad de México, Omar García Harfuch, made the announcement Friday afternoon explaining the operation took place in two areas of Mexico City early Friday morning where authorities located more than 5,000 fake license plates as well as auto circulation cards, documents and equipment used for their manufacturing.

The homes where the finds were made remain under heavy guard while the detained, two men and three women, as well as the insured material, were forwarded to agents of the Public Ministry who are continuing with the investigation.
