First stage of the Chetumal Oncology Hospital operational

Chetumal, Q.R. — President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa have announced the commissioning of the first stage of the Chetumal Oncology Hospital.

Over the weekend, they announced that as of June 5, the first stage of the Chetumal hospital will officially open its doors.

Mara Lezama highlighted that this hospital, which took many years to complete, will allow patients and their families to have access to cancer treatement locally. Previously, residents of Chetumal had to travel to other states to receive care.

Lezama says the hospital will benefit around 135,000 people. It is outfitted with shock areas, pediatric outpatient chemotherapy, adult and pediatric intensive care, and radiotherapy services that includes tomograph, linear accelerator and brachytherapy.

“Today it fills me with joy, pride and happiness to finally be at the opening of the Chetumal Cancer Hospital,” said Mara Lezama. She reported that the cancer hospital cost 834 million pesos.

She also reported that in relation to the State Blood Transfusion Center, in a next stage, more resources will be invested for the reception of blood donors, to give more life opportunities to the patients who need it.
