Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The first cabin for the Maya Train is underway in the plant in Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo. Fonatur says that the assembly of the first car continues and is nearing the stage of painting.
The federal agency in charge of the country’s project says that the frame of the main box of the first car is finished and is entering its painting and equipment process. The National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) says with that, they will begin with the assembly of the second car.
In their statement, Fonatur reported that the first train will be delivered in July 2023 and will have been manufacture entirely by Mexican hands.
Last month, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that in July of 2023, Maya Train testing will begin before its inauguration in December of 2023. The section of train they have announced to be the test route will be on the tracks laid between Merida and Cancun.
