Mahahual, Q. R. — The first fatality of the sea turtle season has been found in Mahahual. On Saturday, authorities were notified of a dead loggerhead turtle that was located in beach scrub.
Authorities attending to the report of the discovery noted the adult sea turtle did not show any signs of injury, but it did appear to be malnourished and under weight. Samples and measurements were taken of the loggerhead sea turtle before it was buried.
Female sea turtles will continue to make landfall along the coast of Quintana Roo until November to lay their eggs.
