Mahahual, Q.R. — Elements of the Othón P. Blanco Fire Department, based in the community of Mahahual, responded to a house fire Wednesday. The fire was reported on the second level of a home in SM 55.
According to preliminary reports, thick smoke accompanied by small flames were seen coming out of a second story window of the home. Neighbors who saw the smoke called the fire department.
One truck with several firemen on board arrived to deal with the flames and thick smoke. Paramedics from UREM were also part of the responding emergency team. Both emergency vehicles were at the scene for more than half an hour since part of the challenge was accessing the home through the second level.
Once inside, firemen were able to confirm the building was empty and no one was injured inside. There were no reports on a cause or estimated damage.
