FGE reports three of the Cancun bar attack victims were customers

Cancun, Q. R. — On Monday, head of the FGE in Quintana Roo, Óscar Montes de Oca, updated the figures to nine injured and two dead. Six of the nine shot between the two bar attacks were employees, while the other three were customers at Las de la Kabah and Deja Vu bars.

During a Monday morning radio interview, Montes de Oca said that the man arrested during the night of the shootings was released after it was found he was not involved. He did not comment on the man arrested Sunday night from a Cancun store.

He did however, confirm that the shooting was a dispute over the sale of drugs between criminal groups.

“The subjects showed up and shot employees at these two bars located north of the urban area of Cancun. One died at one place and others were injured and yesterday (Sunday), we were notified that another person died in the hospital,” he explained.

“We continue to investigate. It is a dispute between groups of criminals to gain space for the sale of drugs. We are advancing in the investigations. We have some (security) cameras and we are going to continue working. Sooner or later, as always, these people are going to end up in jail,” he said.

While two people from the shooting have already been discharged, five more from the Friday night bar shootings remain hospitalized. Óscar Pérez, Director of the General Hospital of Cancun said that three of the Friday night victims are in serious condition and two others are considered critical.
