Mahahual, Q.R. — The Attorney General of the State of Quintana Roo reports that Investigative Police and general service personnel have cordoned off the perimeter and installed notices at the entrance to an affected mangrove area after it had been devastated.
The FGE reports signs have been placed in a devastated wetland area in the town of Mahahual to safeguard the site from criminal acts and prevent unauthorized access.
Experts continue to collect evidence and advance investigations of environmental damage to more than 6,000 square meters of mangrove and wetland. The discovery was made last week after officials visited the site and found trees cut and mangrove had been filled. Federal officials are still looking for those responsible.
