Chetumal, Q.R. — A group of eight criminal gang members are being investigated for murder after being arrested for drug and firearm possession. All eight were taken into custody Thursday after an ongoing investigation by the State Attorney General (FGE).
All eight are being looked into for their involvement in several murders that have taken place around the municipality. In an official statement Thursday afternoon, local authorities reported seizing several long weapons, drugs, vehicles, ammo and tactical equipment during the arrests.
José Guadalupe “N”, Jonathan “N”, Rubén “N”, Yurline Guadalupe “N”, Ángel Josué “N”, Lorenzo “N”, Karen Gabriela “N” and Juan Lorenzo “N”, who according to the first investigations, are part of a violent criminal group dedicated to the sale of drugs in the Southern Zone of the State.
“In addition, they would be involved in at least four homicides in Chetumal,” the State Attorney General reported.
At the time of the capture, authorities seized five weapons of different calibers. The investigations carried out indicate that they could be those used in the homicides.
In addition, the detainees had firearm magazines, cartridges, uniforms, boots, vests and other tactical accessories and two vehicles identified as those used to commit various crimes. Marijuana and cocaine were also reportedly seized.
According to the statement, those captured are believed related to the April 24, 2024 murder of a teenager and injuries sustained by a Municipal Police officer in the Flamingos subdivision of Chetumal.
They are also being investigated for the April 20, 2024 murder of two men from the Las Américas 2 subdivision as well as the shooting death of a third man in the Proterritorio neighborhood of Chetumal.
