Mahahual, Q.R. — Officials continue to investigate the cause of a fire that left a Mahahual family without a home. The fire happened Wednesday morning on Sardina Street shortly before 10:00 a.m.
The modest home was completely destroyed by the early morning blaze. Neighbors alerted the local fire department who arrived and were able to extinguish flames, but not save the home.
By the time they arrived, fire had already eaten through a majority of the wood structure.
Paramedics also responded to the report but arrived to find there were no injured people from the incident.
While an official cause was not reported, Civil Protection is reminding residents that the lack of rain has left the region extremely dry and that given the continued wind gusts, fire spreads fast.
