Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A company bus used to transport staff caught fire on the side of the highway outside Playa del Carmen Wednesday. The burning bus belonging to Experiencias Xcaret, caught fire near Xel Ha, one of its parks.
The bus was carrying staff members when smoke began emanating from the rear motor compartment. Everyone, including the bus driver, managed to get off before the bus burst into flames.
Mechanical failure is said to be the cause of the mishap. The bus was on its way to Tulum when the incident happened. Firefighters and Civil Protection personnel arrived to deal with the burning unit. No injuries were reported. The bus was deemed a write-off.
