Chetumal, Q.R. — At least eight passengers were injured in a Chetumal highway accident Sunday afternoon. The two vehicle accident took place between a Suchaa taxi van and large dump truck outside the city near the junction to Juan Sarabia.
According to preliminary information, the taxi van was running the Sergio Butrón Casas-Chetumal route to the community of Juan Sarabia when it collided with the dump truck.
The industrial vehicle was loaded, hauling stone for the Maya Train project when it was struck. Eight passengers from inside the taxi van were injured in the highway speed collision that left the front of the taxi badly damaged.
Only one passenger from inside the van was transferred to hospital. The others were treated on site. Highway patrol was left in charge of dealing with the two vehicle crash. There was no official word on a cause for the crash.
