Early morning fire destroys DIF office of Chetumal

Chetumal, Q.R. — A fire that burned through an government office building early Monday has left only material damage. Chetumal firemen arrived at the DIF office building around 5:10 a.m. to deal with the report of a fire.

The fire ripped through the offices of the Directorate of Social Assistance and Citizen Attention destroying computers and files.

According to preliminary reports, it was the Quintana Roo Police in charge of monitoring the facilities who reported the early morning fire to emergency 911. Firemen were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to other parts of the building.

At least 60 case files were burned. There were no reports of injuries. An investigation in the cause of the blaze is underway.
