Distracted driver slams into back of parked bus near Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Emergency personnel from Civil Protection transferred a distracted driver to hospital Sunday. The man was taken to a Playa del Carmen hospital from the scene of a crash outside Puerto Aventuras.

The accident happened mid-day Sunday along the federal 307 when the driver of a van hit the back of a bus. The bus was parked along the highway due to a mechanical issue when the driver of the van hit it. The bus was not transporting passengers at the time of the collision.

According to available information, the driver of the van was distracted at the wheel which caused him to hit the back of the parked bus. National Guard Highways manned traffic while Civil Protection provided medical help to the injured driver.

In a brief statement, the Secretary of Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos de Playa del Carmen reported “caution behind the wheel! The Civil Protection Secretariat’s medical and operational team treated an injured person after an accident on Federal Highway at Kilometer 307 involving a transport van and an unoccupied bus. The victim was taken to the hospital. Drive responsibly! If you need us, call 911.”
