Deceased dolphin found floating in Chetumal Bay

Chetumal, Q.R. — The discovery of a deceased dolphin was reported to emergency personnel Sunday morning in the area of Calderitas of Chetumal Bay. Personnel from the Marine Mammal Stranding Service Network took charge of removing the body of the dolphin, which was found floating several meters from shore.

Staff from the Ministry of the Environment also arrived along with biologists from the University of Quintana Roo, who transferred the mammal to the university’s laboratory to determine a cause of death.

Already this year, five deceased dolphins and one dead whale have been found in the southern region of the state of Quintana Roo. Autopsies for the last deceased dolphin came back inconclusive.
