Chetumal, Q.R. — After days of work, the Grand Canal of Chetumal that empties into Bahía Boulevard has been cleared. Crews spent several days using heavy machinery to clear the canal ahead of the hurricane season.

Othón P. Blanco Mayor Yensunni Martínez Hernández reported the completion of the clearing of the Grand Canal that runs from the Centenario Causeway and empties into Bahía Boulevard in the state capital.
Accompanied by the municipal Civil Protection Coordinator Omar Echazarreta Magaña, Yensunni Martínez supervised the mega project which, she said, was part of the maintenance and mechanized cleaning of the 12 stormwater discharge channels in Chetumal.
Using heavy machinery, maintenance, dredging and lateral cleaning of the Grand Canal were carried out on more than 1,440 linear meters which will facilitate the faster evacuation of stormwater from the Proterritorio, Solidaridad, Arboledas I and II neighborhoods as well as Andrés Quintana Roo and surrounding areas.

The Mayor emphasized that these efforts, which were done in coordination with Governor Mara Lezama, reinforces prevention and prioritizes citizen safety and well-being in anticipation of the upcoming rainy season and tropical cyclone storms.
