Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel reaffirms its position as a leader in the cruise industry while participating in the Seatrade Cruise Global 2025 conference. Representing the island is Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez.

He emphasized that Cozumel remains the number one cruise destination in Mexico and Latin America thanks to the quality of its service and the hospitality of its people.
“Last year we welcomed 4.6 million cruise passengers and in the first three months of 2025 alone, we’ve already welcomed 1.5 million passengers enjoying our natural beauty.
“This figure not only surpasses the same period in 2024, but also represents the best start to the year since 2019,” the Mayor said from Miami.
The opening ceremony was led by Rick Sasso, President and CEO of MSC Cruises, with whom Mayor José Luis Chacón had previously met.
Cozumel’s importance in the growth of the industry globally was recognized while Sasso shared the arrival of its new cruise ship the MSC America, moments before the start of the event.

Chacón Méndez also met with Vicky Ray, Carnival Cruise Line’s vice President of Government Relations for Latin America, with whom he discussed key issues related to the relationship with Cozumel and an upcoming investment the cruise line will make on the island.
“Participating in these international forums allows us to consolidate strategic alliances, attract new opportunities and position Cozumel as a destination ready to welcome the world,” said the Mayor.
Cozumel’s tourism boom has also been recognized by the state’s Governor Mara Lezama, who celebrated the island’s peak year for cruise ship arrivals.
“This achievement reflects the promotion of our destinations in this New Era of Tourism where growth goes hand in hand with shared prosperity,” said Jose Luis Chacón, quoting the Quintana Roo Governor.
