Coordinator of Cofepris resigns for health reasons as investigation against him moves ahead

Chetumal, Q.R. — The coordinator of the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risk (Cofepris) has cited health reasons for his sudden departure from the government agency.

On Monday, Miguel Pino Murillo resigned from his position as coordinator for Cofepris after the head of the agency, Bertha Alcalde Luján, initiated several investigations against him for irregularities.

“An investigation is being carried out, but due to privacy, we cannot give details, but there are alleged acts of corruption,” she said.

While the federal agency moves forward with its investigation against Pino Murillo, the Chetumal position of the former coordinator is now filled by Carlos Ortiz Velázquez.
