Colombian arrested at Cancun International on drug charges sentenced to eight years

Cancun, Q.R. — A Colombian man arrested nine months ago at Cancun International has been sentenced to eight years in prison. The man was arrested in April of 2021 after a baggage search revealed 604 grams of cocaine.

Cristhiam M was detained by federal agents and jailed on drug charges in April after airport officials discovered the cocaine hidden inside the hardware of his laptop.

On Wednesday, the Colombian was sentenced to eight years in prison in a Cancun court for introducing cocaine into the country. Cristhiam M was found carrying the cocaine after he arrived at Terminal 2 at the Cancun Internationl Airport from a Bogotá flight.

He will serve his sentence inside the Center for Social Rehabilitation (Cereso) in Cancun.
