Chetumal’s busy Laguna Negra Avenue gets 4.8 million overhaul

Chetumal, Q.R. — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa says the state responded to a request from Chetumal residents with the repaving of Laguna Negra Avenue. During a weekend project tour, Lezama says the city’s citizens made the request for more than 23 years.

Chetumal’s Secretary of Public Works Irazú Sarabia May explained that the busy communication route remained abandoned with potholes and waterlogging in past administrations.

He reported that the road was finally rehabilitated with a 4.8 million peso investment.

Sarabia May says nearly 3,000 people including residents of Colonia Guadalupe Victoria and city travelers circulate on Laguna Negra Avenue. The rehabilitation project included the resurfacing of 6,295 square meters with asphalt concrete and 449 square meters of sidewalks.

New pedestrian crossing were also installed between Avenida Enrique Barocio Barrios and Insurgentes Avenue.
