Chetumal, Q.R. — Dozens taxi drivers in the state’s capital city of Chetumal are being trained in safety and good practices. The drivers are being trained in not only how to provide better service, but also in road and traffic safety.

Julio César Castilla Zapata, the General Secretary of the Sindicato Único de Choferes de Automóviles de Alquiler (Suchaa), says training for his drivers is a priority and is ongoing.

More than 50 Chetumal Suchaa taxi drivers signed up for the free mandatory course on the first day, which was taught by Transit Police and the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute. Chetumal taxi drivers need to take the course in order to obtain their public service transport driver’s license.

In May, a similar course was provided to Chetumal taxi drivers. The May course was provided by in coordination of the Ministry of Tourism (Sedetur) and the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (ImoveQroo) and was aimed at tourism. The “Attention to Tourists” course was given to 100 Suchaa taxi operators.
