Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal taxi driver died Friday after rolling his unit in the city of Chetumal. The accident happened shortly before 2:00 p.m. along Avenida Independencia with Carmen Ochoa de Merino.
According to early information, the taxi was overturned when it was struck by a private vehicle after allegedly running a stop sign. The private silver car that hit the taxi was traveling with Belize plates.
A female passenger in the taxi was rushed to Chetumal hospital with non-nonthreatening injuries. The driver of the taxi was found partially ejected from his cab. He was pronounced on scene by attending medical personnel.
The driver of the private Belize-plated car was arrested.
Suchaa, the Chetumal chapter of taxi drivers, extended their condolences to the taxi driver’s family, identifying him as Luis “S”.
