Chetumal taxi driver gunned down outside home was a former inmate

Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal taxi driver gunned down outside his home Sunday had a criminal record. Reports say the now deceased had served time the Social Reinsertion Center (Cereso) of Chetumal. It is not clear what the man served time for.

The taxi driver, identified only by an alias El Molestias, was shot twice outside his home after a failed abduction attempt. On Sunday night, three armed men reportedly stormed the man’s home and, in front of family members, tried to force him into a waiting vehicle outside.

In an attempt to escape his would-be captors, the man began to run toward his house when he was shot by the same three men who tried to abduct him.

The taxi driver was shot twice while trying to escape being abducted.

Witnesses reported the three men arrived on Tomás Garrido Street in a silver Jetta dressed in tactical uniforms. After shooting the taxi driver, they fled toward Avenida de Los Insurgentes. Police were called and a search operation for the men implemented, but they were unable to locate them.
