Chetumal taxi driver gunned down in city chase

Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal taxi driver was shot to death after a chase through city streets. The shooting happened Sunday night at the intersection of Ignacio Comonfort Avenue and Heriberto Frías.

The taxi driver was chased and eventually intercepted by armed men at the intersection who opened fire. At least two dozen bullet holes were counted on the windshield, driver’s side door and roof of the cab.

During the 8:00 p.m. chase, the driver flipped his taxi which was found by police laying on its side. The driver was trapped behind the wheel and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police collected numerous shell casings from around the scene in the Del Bosque neighborhood of Chetumal. The unidentified driver is reported to have been a member of Sindicato Único de Choferes de Automóviles en Alquiler (Suchaa). Suchaa has not released any information regarding the now-deceased taxi driver.
