Chetumal taxi driver arrested after accusations of passenger sexual abuse

Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal taxi driver accused of sexually abusing a passenger has been arrested. Miguel Ángel “T” was taken into legal custody Monday after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

On Friday, the Chetumal taxi driver was accused of touching a passenger’s bare legs before inviting her to touch his genitals. The incident was reported after the passenger, a 15-year-old female student, was picked up by the cab driver from school for a ride to her home.

The teen said once inside the car, the driver touched her legs then showed her his genitals, inviting her to touch him. After arriving home, her family escorted her to the State Attorney General’s office where a formal complaint was filed.

Part of the incident was allegedly witnessed by a group of motorcycle taxi drivers. That same group also played a key role in identifying the taxi driver alleged responsible.

The 50-something-year-old taxi driver was transferred to the Social Reinsertion Center (Cereso) in Chetumal where he will remain in custody until his hearing Friday.
