Chetumal, Q.R. — A taxi driver and an accomplice have allegedly robbed a passenger. The robbery happened Thursday afternoon when a young woman hailed a taxi after leaving a Chetumal bank.
A taxi stopped for the 22-year-old passenger around 4:15 p.m. on Zapote Street. When she got inside, she told police there was already another woman in the front seat.
Once the taxi began to move, the driver told her that he was going to make a quick stop to drop off the woman from the front seat. Once stopped, that woman got out of the front and entered the back door of the taxi where, according to the passenger, she pulled a knife and demanded cash.
The young woman tried to resist, but was injured. The couple made off with her money, which she told police was a bank loan of 11,000 peso she had just gotten. She asked for help from area neighbors, but the couple in the taxi fled before authorities arrived.
