Chetumal, Q.R. — Dozens of areas of Chetumal remain underwater after more than 18 hours of rainfall. Tropical Wave 38 has seen the region inundated with more than 68 mms of rain.
The deluge of water has caused many streets to flood, and in some instances, has left entire residential areas water logged. The areas hit hardest have seen traffic come to a standstill as flooded vehicles became stranded in the middle of roads.
Local authorities are warning residents in several of the extreme southern areas about possible runoff that could lead to even more flooding, especially along the state’s border area. Civil Protection continues to monitor the areas at risk.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) reports that the observatory in Chetumal recorded rainfall from 68.4 to 76.1 millimeters. According to the weather forecast, the Tropical Wave will continue to soak the south until the weekend.
